While default "Prusa Mini" spool holder is lightweigt and cool looking, changing size quicky became annoying. Other “universal” spool holders I found ( for example this: https://www.prusaprinters.org/prints/29016-uberspooler, this: https://www.prusaprinters.org/prints/78393-608zz-wide-filament-spool-holderroller, or that: https://www.prusaprinters.org/prints/58727-last-spoolholder-you-need-lsun, )

seemed either unnecesary bulky, or were heavy on vitamins, so I fashioned yet another “The ultimate spool holder” using what I had lying around.

Edit:

After approx. 6 months of use, here is a disclaimer:

It is not as ideal solution, as I hoped to be. One of my goals was to make it printable on 10x10 print area of my EasyThreed K1 “toy” printer. This led to some compromises, that in the end hampered utility of the design. It works for me, but it could be better. What to bear in mind:

It is too lightweigt - At 90 grams total is rather pulled around instead to allow spools to unroll - especially when spool is nearly empty. (Rubber feet do remedy this, though.)

It is too lightweigt, what makes it little flimsy. When I finally got 2kg spool and put it on it, it did the job, but the weight seemed a bit too much for it.

The rolling bars have just too small diameter, what makes bearing friction too big parameter. It works, but with larger diameter rollerd it would roll more happily.

Vitamins used:

8mm rod (wood, steel, plastic) 130 mm long (2 pcs) - better use steel or wood. Roller bars bear all the weight and are not supposed to be printed, 608 skate bearings (4 pcs), ½ inch garden hose (cca 25 cm).

Assembly:

Cut garden hose in half, put on the rods, trim as required and attach collars (see pictures). Put sides on the rods and secure with bottom strips. Optionally use hot melt glue or superglue to secure whole assembly, optionally use some rubber pads (I used bit of “P profile” window /door rubber seal)

Spool holder fits from 225 g spools to 2 kg spools.
