Yet Another 40mm Hotend Fan Shroud
thingiverse
The ear-piercing shriek of the standard 30-mm hot-end fan is absolutely unbearable for me to be near my printer. My solution (like many others) is to swap it out with a 40mm fan, hoping to achieve similar airflow without the grating sounds. I also aimed to keep it lightweight, compact and easy to print without supports. The clips present a trade-off between being so snug that they crack when installed and staying firmly in place. In the end, I opted for a looser fit and tie wraps. You can adjust this by modifying the x-axis values of the `translate()` operations on line 17 and 18. The overview has these highlighted. ``` // Clip cutaway #translate([53, 0, 15-.01]) cube([10, 30, 30], center=true); #translate([52, 0, 15-.01]) rotate([0,0,45]) cube([20, 20, 30], center=true); ``` The semicircle at the top (see lines 26 - 30) is designed to make life easier for your slicer. Placing it there should enable it to create a straight bridge for the circular fill section. Trim this away before installation. The code contains too many magic numbers, I apologize about that. If you want to change something, put a question in the comments and I can probably assist. If there's any interest, I could possibly do a version with customization options, let me know. Thanks for taking a look! Bob M
