yet another 3d printed robot arm
thingiverse
A 3D printed robot arm currently under development is likely to undergo significant changes. The servo mount has been thoroughly tested and proven to fit the servo perfectly. Next steps involve testing the fit of the other side. Bearings are not yet included but are planned for future implementation, with a link to be provided on GitHub once control software becomes available. Armature connectors measure 100 mm in length, allowing for a percentage scale translation that should correspond to a millimeter increase for ease of use. Printing multiple joints enables flexibility and the ability to add points of flexure as needed. The MG996R stepper servos used are detailed in the datasheet available at https://components101.com/sites/default/files/component_datasheet/MG996R-Datasheet.pdf. However, it has become apparent that these servos lack sufficient torque. In response, integration with stepper motors and a more efficient gearing system through an adapter is being explored. Control will be achieved using Arduino, and a repository for this purpose has been created at https://github.com/Amyharrison93/RobotArmController. As updates are implemented, some parts may require adjustments to ensure proper fit. These modifications will be reflected in future versions of the design. Additionally, concerns about stepper motor torque have led to plans for alternative solutions. To facilitate navigation and assembly, new models have been added to the file, reducing the number of required parts. Instructions for assembling the robot arm are forthcoming.
