Year of the Dog... 'Dog'
cults3d
Designed for the 2018 Year of the Dog, two STL files are available. One features decorations celebrating the Chinese year, while the other is a plain dog design. Both models print quickly and easily, with small dimensions. However, both feature a tail that lifts and drops to create a wagging motion from left to right, adding an entertaining touch. To achieve this effect, pause your 3D printer at approximately 1mm printed and swap filament, then again when printing reaches around 8mm. The first pause should occur before the undecorated layers start at 1.25mm, while the second pause happens as decoration features begin to print over undecorated layers below, which typically occurs at 7.75mm printed. The photos provided demonstrate how the tail can move up and down as well as side to side, requiring a well-calibrated machine with precise settings and a correctly sliced file. Modern machines should be able to handle the fine clearances within the moving parts without issues. If you encounter fusing problems with the moving parts, this is usually caused by your slicing app, machine inaccuracy, or inefficient filament cooling fan. To resolve this, check and improve these areas first; if necessary, uniformly scale the model up by 5-10% to increase internal clearances and allow for smooth movement. These dogs look great printed in any color. They can be scaled up with decent results but may not print well when scaled down, as moving parts could fuse together and prevent the tail from functioning properly. Please read the print settings information and review the provided images to ensure a successful print. Share your 'Dog' prints for others to see.
