Ye Ol' Homestead
cults3d
For years, I've desperately wanted to create an exact scale model of my property. In fact, I even purchased the artificial turf from a hobby store over half a decade ago. The problem was, I simply couldn't find enough time or adequate storage space for a full-scale, HO gauge, model. Enter the 3D printer, which has completely revolutionized my approach to this long-held ambition. By utilizing SketchUp to meticulously model the buildings and Google Earth to accurately capture the terrain, I've successfully created an incredibly detailed recreation of my homestead. The roofs of both structures are carefully designed to be removable, allowing me to showcase the interior floor plan with precision. My primary objective was to establish a scale where 1 millimeter equals 1 foot in reality, thereby enabling me to print the terrain on the limited bed of my Tarantula printer. Meanwhile, the buildings themselves can easily be scaled up for use in a model railroad layout, which I intend to implement once my own layout is underway and operational.
