Some of the Mayan site structures were built to commemorate the actions of their rulers. This stele was discovered in one of them, Structure 41, constructed by Itz Balam II (Shield Jaguar II). On the stele, it talks about the capture made by the lord of Yaxchilan of a high-ranking figure. In the scene, you see the ruler holding him by the hair, which indicates that he is his prisoner. He holds a lance and flexible shield in his left hand.
