When my brother approached me with a proposal to create a lens hood for his old Yashica, I wasn't confident that the Makerbot could handle a task requiring such precision: I needed something that would twist and lock onto three flanges. After only a few design revisions, however, I realized it was going to work. What impressed me most was that the Makerbot allowed an extremely natural and intuitive design process. I quickly created a rough design and printed it out, which allowed me to identify potential problems. I thickened it in areas and adjusted some dimensions before printing another. I went through two more iterations until I reached the perfect design. This entire process took place within five hours of my brother's initial suggestion, leaving time to watch an entire movie and have dinner. One of the most fulfilling projects I've ever made, considering this is something difficult to purchase these days. Thanks to Makerbot!
