Yarn Pendant w/ Needle Gauge (US 00 through 9)
thingiverse
A charming yarn pendant measures 40mm (1.57") in diameter, featuring knitting needle gauge holes for the following US needle sizes: 00 - 1.75 mm 0 - 2.00 mm 1 - 2.25 mm 1.5 - 2.50 mm 2 - 2.75 mm 2.5 - 3.00 mm 3 - 3.25 mm 4 - 3.50 mm 5 - 3.75 mm 6 - 4.00 mm 7 - 4.50 mm 8 - 5.00 mm 9 - 5.50 mm 10* - 6.00 mm -- the pendant loop is a bonus needle gauge The yarn ball pattern appears on the front, while size labels are displayed on the rear. Sizes increase from the center (00) and then proceed in a spiral outwards, following a clockwise direction when facing the front and counter-clockwise when facing the back. Important: Printing with a small nozzle (e.g. 0.25mm) is recommended to achieve clean holes and text. Needles have manufacturing tolerances, while 3D printing also introduces some tolerance. The goal is for the holes to fit snugly but not too tightly or press-fit. To accommodate this, I exported the files with varying tolerance values, ranging from 0.2mm to 0.4mm relative to hole diameter. For me, 0.25mm and 0.30mm are ideal settings, but smaller is too tight and larger allows for some of the smallest needles to fit into a one-size-smaller hole. All holes have been chamfered to optimize fit. Your 3D printer and needles may differ. I suggest starting with 0.3mm and then adjusting up or down as needed. You can further fine-tune the sizing using "X/Y compensation" and/or extrusion multiplier in your slicer settings. The text is engraved at 0.6 mm, and the front yarn texture is raised by 0.6 mm. To create a better contrasting print, add color changes at the corresponding layers.
