yarn bowl (two pieces, no supports)
thingiverse
I'm excited to share a custom-made yarn bowl that perfectly meets my specific needs as an avid user of yarn cakes. I've found it feasible to have two colors in one bowl, which wouldn't be possible with traditional yarn balls due to the design's limitations. One of my main pet peeves with standard yarn bowls is struggling to remove the yarn from the mouth without cutting it, not to mention yarn escaping unexpectedly or making a break for freedom and jumping out of the bowl. I'm pretty rough on the yarn, so this issue has become a recurring problem. This innovative two-piece design solves these issues by allowing me to close the yarn mouths while still being able to access the yarn freely without cutting it. Having two separate mouths also saves space as I often work with multiple colors simultaneously and found having separate bowls unnecessary. Although I haven't printed or tested this design yet, I'm eager to see if it will live up to its promises in real-world use. Before putting it to the test, some preparation is required: the pegs need to be sanded for a smooth entry point, and the mouths require thorough sanding on their edges to prevent yarn from getting caught or torn. I designed this custom yarn bowl using Tinkercad, and I'm excited to see how it performs in practice.
