Yamaha xt250 Storage Tool Tube
thingiverse
The Yamaha XT250 Enduro motorcycle boasts a spacious tool compartment, cleverly designed on both sides of the vehicle with the factory toolkit secured on the right side. To access this compartment, however, riders need a tool - an ironic twist that is quickly rectified. I plan to utilize this space for insurance documents, extra tools, and other essentials, rather than carrying them on my back. The compartment can get dusty and dirty, but using a zip lock bag is not the most appealing option. A semi-sealed container sounds like a better solution, which led me to create one using 3D printing technology. I measured the space carefully and chose Wstein's Customizable Container with Knurled Lid for inspiration. The tube container fits perfectly within the compartment, requiring adjustments in diameter to 40mm and length to 160mm. The resulting 44mm diameter and 164mm length of the printed tube are ideal for securing the rubber band that holds the tool tray on my motorcycle. Although it doesn't hold as much as the original vinyl pouch, I'm pleased with the result. PETG material was chosen for the print, which will be put to the test in hot weather conditions this summer. In the meantime, a YouTube video caught my attention featuring a replacement bolt that eliminates the need for a tool to access the compartment. The link to the video is available online, showcasing an alternative solution for riders seeking improved convenience.
