YALFE V2 - YET ANOTHER LYMAN'S FILAMENT EXTRUDER V2
thingiverse
YALFE V2 is here, featuring Lyman's ideas on spooling with added cooling improvements! This updated extruder works correctly as of 30/3/2014 and consists of a subsystems including an improved Extruder, Cooling system with a big fan, and a Pulling mechanism. The original YALFE is used in the Extruder with a new voltage regulator, and 12V powers other sub-systems. For Pulling, foam wraps replace rollers around an 8mm threaded rod, while air flow from a big fan provides cooling. The motor regulator can be found here: http://www.ebay.com/itm/CCM6N-Dc-Motor-Speed-Regulator-6v-12v-24v-200w-Reversing-switch-/161001883584?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item257c75c7c0. The motor is a cheap geared 12V one, and the spooling mechanism uses parts from http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:29526 with modifications for motor integration. A 12V motor and timing belt are also used from an old inkjet printer's x carriage. The setup is detailed in photos. For updates, a lower rpm geared motor was purchased for pulling, and a mini shredder was added to create a complete recycling system called MORESYS 3D. Filament extrusion and spooling were successful after a 9-hour run, using HDPE for water piping at 270~295°C. Tolerances fluctuated between 2.6 and 3.0 but counterbalanced with ovality, maintaining stable mean diameter. Instructions include parts from Lyman's thing and http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:32391/#files. Attention should be given to fan placement, motor regulator connections, and spool motor holder drilling.
