Here is my 1.5" 'Ram' mount system. I use these on my own kayaks. It's much sturdier compared to my 1" version, and it can also be paired with my Hobie H-Rail style mount, which has been designed specifically for the M8 Bolt in the 'Lower Ball'. This 1.5" version is better suited for larger sounder applications that require extra rigidity, but it still works great for any sounder applications. I've designed the Garmin ball mount with added reinforcement and peace of mind in mind. It uses a 6mm rod at 45mm long, which is then glued for extra security. You'll need to tap it into place after applying glue to the inside of the mount. I recommend using an Epoxy resin type adhesive like Selley's Araldite. The 'Wing Nut' has been designed to enclose the M8 Nut during printing. You'll need to pause the print at Layer 115 if you're using 0.2mm resolution (that's my preferred choice). If you choose a different resolution, just pause the print at the corresponding layer. Two 'Lower Ball' designs have been included - one 1.5" x M8 and one 1.5" x M6. Note that only the M8 version will work with my Hobie H-Rail mount design (it uses a M8 Lock-Nut to secure the ball to the mount). The M6 version might be better suited for 'Slide rail' type applications. Heat shrink or rubberised paint can be used to get a better grip on the balls. This was especially necessary on the 1" version due to its smaller surface area and lower friction. It's not strictly necessary here, but it still adds extra grip. I've printed these with five perimeters for maximum rigidity and an infill of 70% 'Grid' style infill. Supports are used under the arm for the hex bolt head only. Here are the hardware requirements - all made from Stainless Steel: * Bolts: + 1x 60mm M8 Hex Bolt (main tightening bolt) + 1x M8 or M6 Socket Head Bolt (depending on Ball choice) for 'Lower Ball'. Length varies depending on your application. If using my Hobie H-Rail Mount, use a M8 x 60mm. + 3x 16mm x M4 Bolts are used for the Garmin ball mount * Nuts: + 1x M8 Nut (for Wing Nut) + 3x M4 Lock-Nuts (for Garmin ball mount) * Other: + 1x 6mm x 45mm Rod piece (to reinforce the Garmin ball mount) + Epoxy adhesive for reinforcement rod application * Optional: + 40mm Heat Shrink or Rubberised paint for balls If you enjoy this design and find it helpful, please give me a heart!
