Yakatabune, or traditional Japanese boats, were once owned by Shoguns during the Heian and Edo eras and adorned with great opulence. Inside, these watercraft feature tatami mats and low tables reminiscent of an upper-class Japanese home, hence their name "Home-style Boat." They have historically been used to entertain guests and today continue to cruise Tokyo's rivers and bays for sightseeing purposes while retaining a traditional feel. At night, these boats can be identified by the red lanterns hanging from their cabins.
