The Yakovlev Yak-40 is a short-range, three-engined airliner designed in the Soviet Union. It was the world's first regional jet to enter service in 1966. It was designed to carry up to 32 passengers and had a range of up to 1,000 km. The Yak-40 was mainly used as a regional airliner in Europe and the former Soviet Union, with about 1,000 aircraft built.
