Yaesu FT-817 / FT-818 knobs protector + stand + mic support
thingiverse
One day later, I post an enhanced version of my original design. This parts are designed to provide a protective shield for the knobs of the Yaesu FT-817 or FT-818, utilizing the stock screws and requiring no adjustments to screw length. You can print the legs separately, which can be easily removed when you need to use your radio on the move. If the attachment of the legs is slightly loose, you can use a soldering iron to adjust it and create some friction. There are holes for attaching a belt, and this feature works extremely well. Additionally, when you purchase a stock FT-818 (and possibly also an FT-817), you'll find a metal bracket that allows you to attach the microphone in place. I've created a version of the flange that enables direct screwing onto the metal support, making it easy to use your mic while on the move. I tested this feature today in the field, and it's incredibly convenient. To ensure optimal results, I recommend printing the flange with standard settings (such as 0.20mm layer height) but using thinner layers (0.10mm) for the legs to achieve a smooth surface. The parts are surprisingly robust and thick (10mm for the flanges), possibly even overkill, but this also provides an added layer of protection against shocks. This design is refreshingly simple yet remarkably effective! If you have any comments or suggestions on how to improve it, please don't hesitate to share your ideas!
