Yaesu FT-4X Battery Clip
thingiverse
I use an FT-4x battery clip as a portable charger, relying on its ability to provide contact spaces for the outer contacts on the back of the battery. To achieve this, I employ a lot of solder to make up the missing contacts in the clip. While not the most elegant solution, it works effectively and is straightforward. The clip also features a belt clip that allows me to secure it in place. However, its staying power depends on my chosen contact solution; for me, soldering does not provide sufficient hold. Perhaps spring-loaded contacts could be a better alternative? To charge the battery, I use a current-limited DC:DC 8.4v USB charger connected to the DC socket on the back of the clip. I must emphasize that this setup involves a two-cell Lithium Ion battery and may not be the most suitable charging method. Charging it in this manner should only be attempted with caution and by those familiar with its risks.
