This is YACS, yet another CNC-cut spirograph. As a specialty, it utilizes hypocycloidal (round) teeth that enable optimized machining on a CNC machine, as the tool diameter poses no problems with small teeth like sharp edges of involute gears do. Furthermore, I added not only holes but three triangles to each planet gear, resulting in fascinating shapes. As a gearset, I decided to employ 48, 50 and 52 teeth for the sun gear and 39, 40 and 42 teeth for the planets. This yields 9 distinct rosettes: My build was executed on a desktop CNC machine by Stepcraft using a spiral-toothed 1.2 mm flute. I utilized Pertinax that I obtained as a donation from a reader. This material is ideal for the task: it's hard, extremely smooth and can be machined well. Be certain to cut the inner wheels first! A laser cutter may prove to be an excellent alternative tool for creating smaller versions. Please be aware that the STL file has not been tested; it's intended for viewing purposes only.
