Yacimiento El Castillar - Mendavia
sketchfab
Ancient settlement remnants dating back to the Iron Age can be found in this archaeological site, which was discovered in 1972 and still features the village structure, necropolis, and ceramic remains. Just a short distance away from Mendavía, a Navarrese town situated along the Ebro River, lies "El Castillar," a small hill with a total area of approximately 3,000 square meters. From its summit, one can enjoy a breathtaking panoramic view of the surrounding landscape. The hill's steep slopes on the south and east sides provided a natural defense system, while the northern slope still retains part of the original access ramp. In ancient times, an abundance of water was readily available in the area, but this is no longer the case due to the prevailing drought conditions. As a result, both the prehistoric fauna and flora were significantly different from what can be seen today.
