YABT yet another belt tensioner
thingiverse
Having achieved initial successes in producing functional prints after weeks of troubleshooting my Mendel Prusa kit purchase, I decided it was time for the printer to create better parts for itself with minimal brainpower. While a fan of ingenious technical solutions, I found a belt tensioner that drills a screw into the belt to maintain tension to be a somewhat duct-tape-fix. Thus, I created this alternative option. Feel free to enjoy or edit it as you see fit. To make the tensioner, turn the block with the square nut hole at the top before slicing. After printing, insert an M3 square nut into the hole and place the clamp over it. Then, from the other side, screw in a long enough screw. You can now affix it as shown in the image and secure the belt using washers on the mounting screws. Additionally, you can rotate the tensioner to fix the belt between the slot and plate, with the deeper slot for adjusting the belt's position and the smaller one for securing it. When installing, do not over-tighten the mounting screws; instead, first adjust the belt using the screw within the clamp, then tighten the screws. The mounting screws will also lock the clamp in place upon tightening.
