New designed for resistance pilots, the old bomber from last Jedi era is seriously lacking - slow speed, inadequate shielding, and easily destroyed in tight formations. The new Y-wing bombers are smaller but packed with armor, boasting increased speed and a powerful punch. Each craft accommodates one pilot and two crew members: one gunner in the forward turret for repairs and one in the rear turret for defense. Two heavy ion cannons have been added to the bomber's arsenal, while an additional cargo bay beneath the aircraft allows for carrying payloads.
