Y-Motor cooling air scoop for CR10-Max
thingiverse
While printing very detailed sculpts I noticed the CR1-Max's Y-motor became quite hot. Guess that's up to the high mass of the bed it needs to move, and also because it is warmed by the heated bed from upside as well. This scoop supports two 60mm fans, and it is bonded with double sided foam tape to the plate that holds the y-motor and the belt idler pulleys. You may find also these hints usefull: I bonded some finned heat sinks to the motor on the front and the bottom side to improve heat dissipation. A €6,50 thermocontroller with a glass bead thermistor measured the temperature inside of the heat sink and controlls the fan speed just as its needed to keep noise emissions low. But you don't really need that. The fans are running silently. I didn't want to wire anything from the controller board so I used 5V USB fans that I feed by an external USB power supply. These mods brought a significant improvement on the temperature of the motor. It never got any warmer than 40°C since then. This part can be printed without any support. I used PETG.
