Y fitting for 1" schedule 40 pipe
thingiverse
This is a Y-shaped fitting designed for insertion into the end of a 1" Schedule 40 pipe. Originally intended for use with 1" schedule 40 speed rail in the TV and movie industry, it also fits 1" schedule 40 PVC pipe. A hole in the center adds overall strength by printing layers on both the inside and outside surfaces. The "Y fitting.stl" file is the STL file for this design. It may load in a horizontal position and needs to be reoriented to print standing upright, as I initially attempted to print it on its side to utilize layer orientation for added strength. However, after removing supports, the round section that fits into the pipe was not perfectly round. The "Y fitting 2 pieces.gcode" file is used in my printer to print two Y-shaped parts simultaneously. No adjustments are necessary; simply load and print. The estimated printing time for PLA material is 16 hours and 6 minutes. I created this design using a Prusa i3 MK2 printer, sliced with the original Prusa Slic3r software (a new version has been released). The "Y fitting.f3d" file is the Fusion360 design file, which can be used to make changes to the part if needed and then exported as an STL for slicing and printing. However, it's likely that this file will not be necessary. Here are my slicer settings: * Layer height: PLA 0.2mm normal * Vertical shell: 6 layers * Horizontal shell: 6 layers * Bottom shell: 5 layers (default) * Infill: 50% * Supports: Generate support material automatically (default) This setting may be excessive, which is why the part takes so long to print. I aimed for maximum durability by testing other designs based on this model and finding that it could withstand over 15 pounds of structural stress (by clamping it to a fence and adding dumbbells for testing). The initial version broke instantly during testing, but this revised design has proven much stronger.
