Y-Axis Low Profile Belt Holder

Y-Axis Low Profile Belt Holder

I needed a low-profile y-axis belt holder. My experience with the Prusa parts hasn't been great: too much trouble getting the belt slot to fit, and the part is too tall. I designed this piece to use the belt itself to hold tension. By folding back on itself the teeth interlock to hold it tight. It's also extremely low profile, allowing me to mount my bed low to the carriage. For my build I used Uxcel brass threaded M3 inserts and M3x4mm screws to attach it to my Gulf Coast Robotics 220x220mm carriage (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07B2649NN/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1). The part is 50 mm long and about 14mm high. It attaches with 2 M3 x 10 screws. Version 1 The mounting holes are exactly 40 mm apart. This does not fit the Prusa standard 200 x 200 mm carriage, and was a little tight for the Gulf Coast Robotics one. Version 2 The mounting holes are exactly 41.5 mm apart. I increased the height to 20 mm so the belt slots align better with the motor and pulleys on my Prusa i3 mk2.5 frame. Note: still doesn't fit the Prusa standard carriage. Post-Printing Installation For best results, use M3 threaded inserts. Install the part on the build plate carriage first. Loosen your belt tension adjustment. Fold over one end of your y-axiz belt so that the teeth interlock at the adjustment you want. Slide the belt into the y-axis block slot so the block holds the folded over end against itself. Adjust until the loop on the end of the belt can slide over the "pin" in the belt holder. Press firmly in place. It's a pain, but once you have the right adjustment if will slide right in and stay there foryears. Repeat for the other end. This is a bit more challenging, as you have to find the right place that will make your belt tight enough. It may take a couple tries. The key is to use the slot to hold the belt while you move it toward the opposite end of the block enough to properly fit around the anchor pin. Tighten your belt adjustment.
