Y-Axis Layer Shift Test Model
thingiverse
When tackling y-axis layer shift issues, I crafted this model to deliberately induce my specific failure mode - essentially, circular shapes seemed more likely to cause my printer to malfunction. This solution may not work for all failure scenarios, but it's worth trying nonetheless. For me, it consistently failed 100% of the time, which was a significant improvement over the frustratingly intermittent issues I had previously encountered. To utilize this model effectively, I recommend aligning the smallest and central ellipses along the y-axis, reducing the layer height to its lowest setting (more layers increase the likelihood of shifting), omitting top layers, employing thicker walls (I used 5mm), and utilizing line infill at 0 and 135 degrees. Additionally, I suggest using a brim to secure the model on the build plate, as it was designed with this feature in mind. If you find success with this model, please leave a comment; alternatively, if you know of other models that consistently fail, feel free to share them as well. On February 20th, 2018, I added a second y-axis test model (Y-Axis-Test_2.stl), which had been requested by a friend. This iteration did not malfunction for me, but it might be worth trying. To use this model effectively, I recommend setting the minimum layer height, using linear infill along the y-axis (as depicted in the image), omitting top and bottom layers, duplicating the model twice, and placing one at each end of the y-axis to fully stimulate travel speed.
