Y.A.F.T. Yet Another Fidget Thingy - rings and sphere
thingiverse
Yet Another Fidget Thingy: It's a fidget spinner, it's a top, and it's a soothing worry stone/roller all in one. Flip it like a coin for an interesting gyroscopic motion that's sure to entertain. Misalign the rings and roll it like a wheel, then watch as the middle ring realigns itself. I drew inspiration from countless other captive ring toys and print-in-place models, so I decided to give creating my own simple version a try. This design prints quickly, making it an ideal benchmark test for any 3D printer. The standard tolerance on this model is set at 0.4mm gap, but if you're experiencing issues with the other versions, try using the more tolerant one with 0.5mm spacing instead. To get the rings spinning smoothly, I applied some Plexus plastic polish. You might also consider using furniture polish or silicone lubricant – just be aware that some sprays can discolor plastics. Most printers shouldn't have any trouble printing the standard version, but if you do encounter issues, it's likely due to over-extrusion problems. I printed this design on a CR-10 V2 without any issues, but had to adjust my extrusion settings on an Ender3 to get it to print correctly. When preparing to print these fidget toys, keep in mind that they're positioned upside down on Thingiverse so you can easily see the preview for the center divots. To avoid printing supports, simply flip them 180 degrees before hitting print.
