Started as a CAD exercise, turned into a research project. Following drawings by late John Coster-Mullen, a research paper by Yiannis Galidakis and a few photos and documents available I created a model of the first atom bomb.I had to simplify some parts, e.g. I did not model the tamper plug since at 1:20 scale the the parts were not printable. Also the explosive lenses do not contain the parabolic Comp-B inserts and I have no Po-By initiator in the Pu pit.The model consists, from inside out:Plutonium pit - since Pu239 is hard to get I use a 4.5mm ball bearing sphere. 2 Tuballoy (U238) Tamper hemispheres - glue in pusher shere2 Aluminum pusher hemispheres - include hollow chambers to insert magnets to hold the two hemispheres together2 Explosive lenses - include hollow chambers to insert magnets to hold the two hemispheres together5 casing wedges - 4 simple and one with a strange square insert1 Lid1 baseDesk standThe Model can be printed in scale 1:20 on a Prusa Mini. The casing is quite challenging to print, I found PETG works best.
