xyz daVinci Pro - Y Motor Belt Tensioner - Bruce Walker
thingiverse
Yesterday while investigating a sound in my DaVinci Pro, I discovered one of the tensioner pulleys dancing more than it should be. Today, I took the machine apart to investigate further. On closer inspection, I found no sign of damage or wear on the pulley or belt, and the belt didn't appear loose at all. I examined how the pulley carriage engaged and moved in its mount but couldn't figure out why the pulley wasn't moving around as much as it was. Since I don't want the pulley to move around excessively and to eliminate a wear point where the pulley's axle spins in the plastic carriage, I drew inspiration from Oscar Hierro's X-axis replacement tensioner (https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:805215) and designed a replacement part that uses 3x6x2.5 bearings to prevent up/down movement. When inserting my new pulley into this design, some thin parts broke off. Luckily, this isn't affecting performance, and I suspect the issue was poor layer adhesion of the thin walls.
