XYZ da Vinci filament spool drill mount
thingiverse
I crafted this spool/drill mount to enable me to rapidly wind filament back onto the spools that fit inside the proprietary XYZ filament cartridges. This design will work with both the standard spools sold by XYZ and my own spools, which I designed to be compatible (http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1705022). Using my regular household drill and this adapter, I'm able to refill my filament spools in a matter of minutes. Hardware list: (3) #6-32 x 0.25" brass heat-set inserts for plastics (McMaster No. 93365A132) (3) #6-32 washers (optional) (3) #6-32 x 1.00" socket cap machine screws (1) 1/4-20 x 3.00" threaded rod (any 1/4" x 3" or longer shaft or rod will do) Quick set two-part epoxy (I used the cheap Harbor Freight stuff) Special tools: Soldering iron Assembly is straightforward - use the soldering iron to install the heat-set threaded inserts in the longer side plate, as shown in the photos. Install the machine screws through the thumbscrews snugly with an allen wrench, attaching the short side place to the long side plate, as shown in the assembled part screenshots. Fill in the top of the thumbscrew with epoxy to bond the thumbscrew to the machine screw. Once the thumbscrews are cured, remove them, then install the threaded rod to the right depth in the long side plate -- you want to leave enough of the threaded rod sticking out to stick into a drill chuck, and have the other end stick into the short side plate enough to make sure the shaft is correctly aligned for the next step. Tape the threaded rod in place, then remove the short side plate and liberally apply epoxy to the inside of the long side palte to secure the threaded rod in place. Quickly re-mount the short side plate with the thumbscrews so that the threaded rod is held straight, then wait for it to cure. Assuming you've done everything right, the center shaft should be properly aligned and secure. As usual, use this design at your own risk, I am not responsible for any damages or injuries that may result from using these parts.
