XY Fan Holder
thingiverse
Create a 50x50mm fan holder for XY stepper cooling I was inspired by ReSc's idea and decided to make my own. I will update this post with progress pictures as the parts print. The fan is quite light, so it should not be an issue. 1st Update: The right fan finished printing and felt a bit flimsy initially but became rigid when bolted to the frame using M4 screws. The side clip also held everything securely without requiring a screw. Just a minor issue of clearance with the print surface, which can be fixed by sanding down slightly and updating the file. 2nd Update: I recessed the holder (left and right) about 2.5mm more to provide necessary clearance when the build platform moves up and down. The DWG files are available for download if you wish to modify the walls and make them thicker. Once the fan is bolted on, everything becomes very rigid. 3rd Update: To attach the fans, splice the blue and purple cables. I did this so I can turn on and off only the stepper motors. I also added an switch (not included in file as there are many sizes) and used leftover screws from my Ultimaker. If the fan holder is loose, add some tape on the inside of the "clamp." 4th & Final Update: Fan temperatures dropped significantly after installation, from about 50C to a cool 30C. The fan cooler fins stay in place without paper clips as long as they are not bumped around. Enjoy!
