xtrhdr a geared nema23 extruder for a cupcake
thingiverse
This extruder is ideal for cupcake owners with a desire for a stepper extruder who possess spare cheap Nema 23 steppers. Inspired by Jag's design (http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:7113), it incorporates a makerbot MK5/MK6 filament drive gear, an additional stepper driver board, three 606 bearings, and assorted nuts and bolts. The primary objective was to utilize an old low-torque stepper, a makerbot MK3 hotend (now replaced by something superior), and minimal laser-cut components. If you're curious about the rationale behind this intricate design, it allows for reusing parts when upgrading to a more potent stepper motor. The extruder supports an optional second extruder, although further development is needed. It operates with the 'experimental' stepper extruder setting from Repg25, which functions flawlessly for the creator. While it remains uncertain if others will construct this device, pairing it with a .35 nozzle (available at reprap-fab.org) can result in impressive prints even from a 2009 makerbot.
