Xperia Z3 hard case with buttons
thingiverse
I've smashed my phone screen an infuriating five times over a few months, leaving me fed up with all case designs. I also meticulously tested various glues for securing new screens to my phone, only to decide on a lightweight hard case. To assemble this project, you'll need 10 x 1mm self-tapping screws that provide exceptional strength. You may need to clear out the clearance holes in the back and pilot holes for threads in the front using a sewing needle; a pin is often too thick for the task. Before attempting this project, test your printer calibration by printing some holes. The clearance holes are 1.2mm in diameter, while the pilot holes measure 0.7mm. I've found that buttons move freely at 0.2mm clearance, but you can scale them up if you prefer a tighter fit. The completed case weighs approximately 20g or less than an ounce and has withstood several drops from hip height onto concrete without breaking. However, the last time it fell, the case, screen protector, and LCD survived, while the digitizer cracked. I plan to revise this design to incorporate felt cushioning in a future iteration and will post updates when ready. If I'm satisfied with silicone cases, though, I may not pursue this project further. Several online sellers failed to deliver, leading me to seek an alternative solution that could provide sufficient impact resistance. Despite my satisfaction with this case, I still intend to cut out the back for improved cooling. I considered LoveMei cases but ultimately ruled them out due to their excessive weight of around 800g, including the phone. My ex's experience with one was acceptable in a purse, but it wouldn't fit comfortably in a pocket, according to my opinion.
