
XPANDER - 180mm foldable compact FPV racing drone

This is a portable FPV multirotor flight platform, the XL-RCM 28.0 XPANDER, designed for compact and rigid performance in its category. The design was inspired by my previous foldable quadcopter size frame, the "XL-RCM 8.0 XYPHER", but with a slightly bigger airframe to accommodate larger multirotor parts and motors. My goal is to create a portable size racer that can fit easily inside small containers, pouches, or medium-sized pockets. The design is highly innovative and looks aerodynamic. I started this project in late 2015 and completed the frame by February 2016, but unfortunately, I ran out of budget and time to finish the electronics installation due to other important hobbies that require my attention. The XPANDER chassis features fully foldable rotors with higher offset motor mounts for compact folding size. The front of the frame has a special mounting system for FPV CMOS cameras, while the mid-frame includes space for various electronics boards such as receivers, flight controllers (CC3D, SP RACING, NAZE32), and mini 5.8GHz video transmitters. Each rotor arm is secured with M4 type long screw shafts and bolts. Batteries are mounted below the frame using DIY straps or velcro due to the varied shapes and sizes of drone racer batteries.
