XJ Ash Tray switchplate
myminifactory
April 28, 2019 Update I printed three Standoff parts and one switchplate. To secure the standoffs to the back of the switchplate, I used superglue. Next, I installed M3 heatset inserts on the bottom of each standoff. I then drilled through the center console and fastened the switchplate using M3 screws. The switchplate will bend slightly to fit the factory center console's contours. Below this line is outdated: __________________________________________________________________________________ This project remains a work in progress. I am designing a full drop-in switchplate to replace the factory ash tray. Currently, I have the switchplate designed and it fits well, but I need to find a way to secure it properly. There is also a slight curve to the center console that I didn't consider initially. I haven't decided how to adjust for this yet. Print your switchplates from PETG or ABS. These materials are preferred because they will not melt or warp in a hot car. PLA is not recommended due to its tendency to melt or warp under these conditions.
