Xiaomi Yi quadcopter mount and protection
thingiverse
I've been using filters to protect my Yi's lens but I found that I was constantly replacing them because they were doing their job and taking the scratches. This isn't the first to use a cut piece of Plexiglas, but as far as I can tell it's the first that doesn't need to be held in place with screws. The plexy is very secure but easy to replace considering you've made extras. The 1/8in thick pane I got from Lowes was like $6 and made something like 25 43x43mm squares. The mount is at 45 degrees, but on request I can modify it at whatever angle. I use 3M foam tape to secure it in place and a Velcro strap through the quad's top plate to hold everything down. There is an extra hole not shown on mine that allows you to use zip ties instead of the foam tape. The sleeve that fits around the Yi's sides keys onto the mount to really add a snug fit. This design requires that your printer can handle Ninja and Simiflex. ABS: face plate Ninjaflex: sleeve (file is called a cover) Simiflex: lens protector band, spacer, and 45-degree mount The mount can work in ABS but I like having a little give and it grips better. Also, a low infill will keep it rigid yet cut back on the weight. I've also included my naked lens face plate that protects the lens with only a Simiflex hood. It works great, but if your using the Waffle Script's super view not so much. Unless you want to feel like you're flying a tie fighter in your vids. This is my first upload, and I'm curious how this goes because I've got more "things" coming. Just added: - Notches around the frame making it easier to swap out filters. - An older naked lens version I used for a while. It does the trick... most of the time... if you don't mind replacing the lens every so often. I will say that the lens filters I used before scratched faster and didn't cost much less than a new lens on Banggood. Can't recall how super view looks through it. UPDATE: I've perfected (for now) the mount for this whole set up. It's now lighter, easier to print, and gets the strap's pesky D loop out of the way. I'll add more options for uptilt soon.
