Fairly form fitting to the wheel's contour to minimize stress, it has just enough wiggle room to get on and off without a problem. I'd recommend trying to remove them once you have one side of the tire out, otherwise they are effectively increasing the diameter of your rim. You should be okay with a variety of filaments. Mine are PLA and survived the first change! You'll probably want one of these for each iron/spoon you intend to use.
