Antirrhinum sp., also known as Snapdragon, is a herbaceous plant that grows annually or perennially, reaching heights of up to 80 cm. Native to the Mediterranean region, it thrives on steep hillsides and rocky soil in sunny, warm, and dry climates. The genus comprises over 40 species, some featuring highly decorative flowers, particularly Antirrhinum maius, cultivated for nurseries and flower shops. Its Latin name reflects the nose-like shape of its blooms, while the English common name stems from the petals' dragon-jaw-like movement when pressed. In Italian, it is called Bocca di Leone, or Lion's Mouth, due to the same reason.
