The Pussy Willow (Salix caprea), also called Goat Willow due to its Latin origin, is a versatile plant that can thrive on various soils, even the poorest ones. Native to Asia and Europe, it typically grows in height from 0.6 meters to 9 meters. This hardy species can be found on hill slopes and mountain areas up to 1500 meters altitude, playing a crucial role in preventing landslides by consolidating the soil. As a pioneer plant, it colonizes new or abandoned lands and is commonly seen in mixed broadleaf forests. Its elastic wood is used for creating basketworks.
