The Passiflora species, originating from Central and Southern America, varies in height from 23cm to 124cm. They thrive in bright, shaded environments with fresh, deep soils and prefer warm, moderately humid climates, as they are frost-intolerant. This genus comprises diverse species, including herbaceous plants, creeping/climbing shrubs, and small trees. Due to their tropical nature, most cannot be planted outdoors in temperate regions; however, some species are robust enough to withstand cold winter temperatures. The Passion Flower was named by Jesuit missionaries in 1610, who saw resemblances between the flower's parts and religious symbols of Christ's Passion. The plant has been known since Aztec times for its sedative properties.
