The Paper Mulberry tree, scientifically known as Broussonetia papyrifera, is a broadleaf deciduous species with heights ranging from 0.5 meters to 9 meters. Originating in Pacific Islands, Eastern China, and Japan, it thrives in various environments such as wild lands and can even grow on any type of soil, including full shade conditions. Adaptable to temperate climates, this tree can withstand both cold and drought. It is a versatile species that often colonizes neglected areas like wasted lands, ruined buildings, or road edges. The Paper Mulberry was introduced from Asia to Europe in the 18th century as an ornamental plant but soon became invasive due to its ability to grow in challenging conditions. In Eastern Asia, the bark of this tree was historically used for producing paper, while Native Fijians utilized it to make traditional ceremony clothes.
