Phalaenopsis orchids measure between 49-124 cm in height and originate worldwide. They thrive in humid environments, such as over trunks or rocks, preferring warm and moist conditions. Most orchids naturally grow in tropical or subtropical areas; only 15% are native to temperate climates. Tropical species possess aerial roots with a radical veil for capturing air moisture, whereas Mediterranean orchids have underground roots. Orchids employ intricate strategies for pollination by pronubal insects and can reproduce sexually or asexually. They adapt well to various environments, excluding glaciers and deserts. Some orchid species are saprophytic, deriving nutrients from decaying organisms.
