Marigolds (Tagetes species) typically grow to heights between 7cm and 24cm. They originally hail from the South-Western USA, Mexico, Central, and Southern America. These flowers thrive in well-drained sandy soils and prefer hot or warm climates. The name "Marigold" is believed to be derived from its association with the Virgin Mary (Mary's Gold) in Christian mythology. In prehispanic Mexican culture, Marigolds held symbolic significance as the flower of the dead. Today, they are cultivated alongside crops such as tomatoes, eggplants, and others due to their insect-repellent properties. Additionally, Marigold is used for extracting essential oils in the perfume industry, as well as a flavorant and colorant in food products.
