The Koa tree (Acacia koa), a broadleaf evergreen, can grow to heights of 2.5m to 10m and is native to Hawaii's Hawai'i, Maui, and Oahu. It thrives in dry to wet forests at altitudes ranging from 70 to 2300 meters in warm, temperate climates. Notably, Koa is one of the fastest-growing trees in Hawaii, reaching 20 feet in just five years; however, it takes another 50 years for it to achieve a commercially viable size. This slower growth rate has led to less frequent cultivation. In ancient times, Hawaiians utilized the tree's trunk for constructing canoes, and today its reddish wood is sought after for musical instruments like ukuleles. Regrettably, grazing has significantly impacted Koa populations on Hawaii islands, making regeneration challenging.
