Kanuka (Kunzea ericoides), a broadleaf evergreen, can grow as a tree or shrub, reaching heights of 2-15 metres. Native to New Zealand, it thrives in coastal scrubs, wastelands, hillsides, and elevations up to 2000 metres. The climate is mild, temperate, and cool. Previously known as Manuka until the 1930s, Kanuka can grow taller than its Australian counterpart, Burgan, reaching up to 30 metres in height with a 1-metre trunk diameter. Competitive and resilient, it often dominates open forests and recolonises wasted lands. Its striking white blooms are visually captivating.
