The European Mountain Ash (Sorbus aucuparia) is a deciduous broadleaf tree/shrub indigenous to Europe, Northern Africa, and Asia. It thrives in alpine forests, moorland, and moist, acidic soil. With cool to cold climates, this species is known as "aucuparia" due to its historically used berries for bird luring and scurvy treatment. In Scotland and Scandinavia, it was believed to ward off the devil and was planted near churches and houses. The Celtic druids considered it sacred to the goddess Brigid.
