It thrives in mountain forests at altitudes between 600 and 1,700 meters and prefers cool to cold climates. As one of the continent's widest-ranging mountain trees, it faces slow growth rates and replacement by faster-growing spruce trees. Beech forest ground is acidic due to limited light penetration, and beech wood is easily bent with balsamic properties. Model 1 (Chokkan) measures 50 centimeters, Model 2 (Hokidachi) is 42 centimeters, and Model 3 (Saikei or Gohon Yose) is 40 centimeters.
