The Crocus species (Crocus sp.) grows 13.5 to 24.5 cm tall, originating from Mediterranean regions. These plants thrive in hillside environments with full sunlight on neutral or calcareous well-drained soils in temperate climates. The diverse genus of Crocus takes its name from the Ancient Greek word "Krokos," meaning "fabric thread," referencing the flowers' long stigmas. As a bulbous geophyte, this herbaceous perennial plant stores new growth buds underground in a bulb, with basal leaves generated directly from the bulb. Crocus flowers are widely distributed across Southern European hillsides and subalpine meadows.
