Coffee, scientifically known as Coffea arabica, is a perennial shrub or small tree that can reach heights of 31 to 141 centimeters. Native to Ethiopia's Kaffa region, coffee thrives in highland savannah environments with warm and dry climates, but it is cold-hardy and frost-intolerant. In cultivation, the plant is typically pruned to a height of two meters for easier harvesting. While its native habitat ranges from 1300 to 1500 meters in altitude with an average temperature of 20°C, coffee is grown worldwide in warm climates. It was the Arabs who popularized coffee as a beverage globally. In North America and Europe, one cup of coffee is consumed for every three glasses of tap water. The global annual production of coffee stands at approximately 7 million metric tons.
