The Carnarvon Gorge Macrozamia (Macrozamia moorei), an arboreal plant belonging to the Cycad family, is an evergreen with a height ranging from 1m to 6.5m. Native to southeast Australia in Queensland, it thrives in foothills and margins of rainforests on poor, rocky soils that are well-drained, neutral or slightly acidic. This plant requires a warm, mild climate as it is cold-intolerant. Initially categorized under the Encephalartos genus, it was later attributed to its own genus in recognition of Charles Moore, director of Royal Botanical Gardens in Sydney during the latter half of the 19th century. This species grows at a slow pace, averaging 2 metres every 100 years, and only starts coning after reaching 50 years of age. Known to be long-lived, some Macrozamia moorei specimens have reached an impressive age of 400 years.
