The Cantaloupe, scientifically known as Cucumis melo, is an herbaceous creeping/climbing plant with a height ranging from 45cm to 133cm. It originated in Eastern Tropical Africa and thrives on deep, rich alluvial soils under full sunlight. The Cantaloupe's climate preference is warm and temperate, with a lethal threshold of -2°C. Historically, it was introduced to the Southern Mediterranean by the Egyptians in the V Century B.C., and later spread across Europe, symbolizing fertility. Despite blooming abundantly from May to September, only 10% of its flowers develop into fruits. China is currently the largest producer of Cantaloupes, accounting for 51% of global production. When stored at home, melons should not be kept below 5°C.
