The Brigalow Tree (Acacia harpophylla) is a broadleaf evergreen with a height ranging from 5m to 18m. Native to northeast Australia, specifically in Queensland and New South Wales, this tree thrives in the open forests and woodlands of plains or gentle hills on clay soils. It can be found in warm temperate climates under coastal and semi-arid rainfall regimes. Also known as Brigalow Spearwood or Orkor, it forms part of the Brigalow Belt ecosystem. This medium-sized tree can grow up to 25m and creates open woodlands often in mixed communities with other Acacias, Eucalyptus, Casuarinas, and various underwood species. After fires, Brigalow communities tend to resprout well, except for softwood scrubs that are denser. The Brigalow Belt encompasses 6 million hectares divided into 165 regional ecosystems, providing a habitat for numerous native fauna, many of which are endangered.
